Not only was it our first away win of the season, but we kept a clean sheet and scored 5 (five) goals, had one disallowed and perhaps should have scored more. After picking up only two points on the road this season, this was a great relief coming after two home defeats and our last win was almost a month ago. Southampton are bottom of the league for a reason, but they are desperate for points under their new manager, so a Bees win was not a given. However, right from the kick-off there was only one team in it and we blew them away. In the 6th minute some trickery from Damsgaard saw him thread a great through ball to Schade who, with the outside of his foot, opened the scoring. Then Wissa had a great chance that Ramsdale saved, then Norgaard headed against the bar. In the second half van den Berg almost opened his Brentford account with header that was then disallowed by VAR. On the hour mark, Jensen's long ball forward was flicked on by Schade to put Wissa in on goal. The Congolese striker raced forwards but blazed over. Two minutes later Mbeumo did make it 2-0. Flekken's long kick up field dropped to Mbeumo, with Schade's aerial presence again causing problems for the Saints' backline. He played the ball to Wissa, who cut inside before finding Mbeumo with a reverse pass, and the Cameroonian blasted into the roof of the net. In the 69th minute Mbeumo got his second and our third with a cooly taken penalty after van den Berg had been pulled down in their area. We looked like we were going to end up winning 0-3, but Xmas came very, very, very early as Lewis-Potter made it 0-4 in the 90+2 minute. Paris Maghoma danced through three Saints players and found Mbeumo, who unselfishly played it left for Lewis-Potter to slot past Ramsdale. Then two minutes later we got our fifth, after more hapless Saints defending Wissa raced into the corner of the box and curled into the back of the net to become the club's joint leading goalscorer in the Premier League - with 36 - alongside Ivan Toney. Having now seen the extended highlights a 0-9 scoreline would have been more of a true reflection of the game.
It's as rare as hen's teeth - an away win!
